We weren’t satisfied with the air purifiers on the market – so we developed OZONOS®!
We were just like many others: unpleasant odors from the open kitchen, allergens in spring, lingering corona and flu viruses – and air purifiers that promised more than they delivered. Filters clogged quickly, needed constant replacement (which we never had time for), and turned into breeding grounds for germs. The devices themselves became noisy, and their effectiveness declined.

Honestly, we sometimes wonder why so many devices still rely on HEPA filters – when both available technology and our everyday lives have long since changed. More germs, larger living spaces, open kitchens with more odors – and yet air purifiers that still do the same thing they did seven years ago? And with filters we’re expected to replace regularly –despite the fact that we all want as little effort and waste as possible?
OZONOS® is different.
OZONOS® doesn’t just clean the air – it transforms it.
As soon as you switch on the device, a special UV-C lamp inside activates the oxygen from the surrounding air. This creates a very small, controlled amount of ozone (O₃). It spreads quietly through the room and reacts with pollutants such as viruses, bacteria, mold spores, pollen, odors, and other organic impurities.
They are broken down at the molecular level – even in hard-to-reach corners. Afterwards, the ozone harmlessly reverts back into pure oxygen. The air you breathe is fresh, hygienic, and free from contaminants.
“An air purifier without filters?
So what happens to odors and germs?”
Answer from Thomas Brunauer: A valid question—and exactly what I asked myself before developing OZONOS®. Filters often just collect germs, which can actually do even more harm to our health. We rely on active ozone in a very small, safe amount. It spreads throughout the room, comes into contact with germs, viruses, and odors—and destroys them at the molecular level. The ozone “oxidizes” them, breaking them down into harmless components. Afterwards, the ozone itself reverts back into oxygen.
“But ozone and ozone generators are dangerous!
Is indoor use even allowed?”
Yes, that’s true – ozone generators are not intended for continuous indoor use. But OZONOS® is NOT an ozone generator! While ozone generators release very high levels of ozone at the push of a button to combat strong odors or germs, OZONOS® air purifiers produce ozone only in amounts comparable to what you’d find in nature – such as after a summer thunderstorm or during a walk in the mountains. The ozone is created from the oxygen in the room air and then reverts back into pure oxygen.

Do you have any further questions about OZONOS® technology and safety?
Yes – but only in a very small, strictly controlled amount. OZONOS® generates ozone from the natural oxygen in the room air using UV-C light. This ozone reacts with pollutants and then reverts back into pure oxygen. The concentration is far below all legal limits and so low that OZONOS® can be safely operated in the presence of people, children, and pets.
Yes – and that’s one of the biggest advantages of OZONOS®. Instead of physical filters that need regular replacement and can accumulate germs, OZONOS® works entirely without consumable parts. The air is purified chemically with active ozone, breaking down pollutants at the molecular level.
This typical “fresh air scent” comes from the very small amount of ozone that OZONOS® produces during purification – similar to the smell after a summer rain or thunderstorm. In nature, it’s a sign of clean, purified air – and that’s exactly what happens here: OZONOS® neutralizes odors and pollutants, making the air feel noticeably fresher.

Yes, absolutely. The amount of ozone released by OZONOS® is so minimal that it does not harm plants, animals, or people—even with daily use or continuous operation. Cats can sleep directly under the device, and houseplants thrive just as usual.
No, that’s not true. The 8-hour rule comes from workplace regulations and applies only to the AC I and AC II Pro models—and only under the assumption that they are used continuously in a very small room (under 4 m²) without ventilation. In everyday use, the ozone concentration from OZONOS® is far below the legal limit. This means you can safely stay in the room for longer than 8 hours—without any health risk.
Yes, absolutely. Many of our users let OZONOS® run before going to bed or use the timer function to purify the bedroom air in advance.
